Brush Pickup starts Monday, April 30, 2012
Brush pickup in the City of Northwood, Ohio is held annually in the spring for two weeks beginning the last full week in April through the first week of May and once in the fall on a pre-announced date. The crew will go through the entire City one time so brush should be placed by the curb of the street by 7:00 a.m. on the first day of pickup and no earlier than ten days prior, regardless of when it gets picked up. The city will not return for brush put out too late or placed in alleys.
Each home may put out one pile of brush no larger than four feet tall and 15 feet long. Brush that is piled in a tangled mess severely reduces the crew's ability to complete its scheduled route and will not be picked up. There is no brush drop-off at the City Municipal Complex. However, landfill passes are available at no charge to City of Northwood residents for free disposal of brush and rubbish. These passes can be obtained from the Income Tax Office in the City Municipal Building.
It is recommended that the brush piles be stacked neatly with the ends facing the street, branches not exceed 4 inches in diameter, and not be tied or bundled. Small clippings, hedge trimmings and twigs will not be placed in the mulcher; they should be put in garbage cans for refuse pickup.
Brush Pickup is not a "yard waste" or "large item" pickup. Do not mix sod, solid waste, concrete, metal or other building materials with brush. It will damage the wood chipper used to grind brush. Plastic bags are prohibited because they can also damage the chipper.
The City of Northwood reserves the right to refuse pickup for those properties not complying with the above guidelines. When the guidelines are not met, the Public Service Director will notify the resident/property owner that they are responsible for removal.
Leaf Pickup for Fall
Leaf pickup begins around November 1st of each year and runs through December 1st, or until the first substantial snowfall. Leaves should be loose, not bagged, and raked to the curb but not placed in the roadway. It is important to keep leaves away from drains and catch basins because this can cause flooding.
