In support of City Council, the Zoning Department enforces the City of Northwood Zoning Code adopted to protect and promote the public health, safety, morals, comfort, convenience, prosperity and welfare within the Municipality. ResponsibilitiesThe Planning and Zoning Department is responsible for reviewing new development plans, issuing permits and inspecting properties for compliance with the City of Northwood Zoning Code. The department also works with the Planning Commission to review new industrial and commercial development, along with residential subdivisions, conditional uses and makes zoning change recommendations. Variance requests and appeals of the Zoning Code are presented by the department to the Board of Zoning Appeals. Department personnel also attend meetings and provide assistance, as needed, to the Economic Development Committee.
