When you need to play in Northwood, there’s no shortage of recreational and cultural opportunities. Within just a few miles of the City of Northwood you’ll find a world class museum, a top notch zoo, a minor league baseball field, a theatre and concert hall, and miles of unspoiled lake shore.

PlayThe Toledo Museum of Art and the highly acclaimed Glass Pavilion are a short drive across the Veterans’ Glass City Skyway Bridge. The Museum features a staggering permanent collection and hosts special collections throughout the year. The Glass Pavilion hosts more than 5,000 works of art from ancient to contemporary times. TMA also offers classes in drawing, painting, ceramics, glass blowing and more.

If you prefer live theatre and concerts, The Stranahan Theatre is just a few miles from the City of Northwood. The Stranahan Theatre brings theatrical, musical and comedic entertainment to the area. Northwood residents with a craving for Broadway don’t have to travel to New York City to see the shows of the Great White Way—past performances at the Stranahan include Spamalot, Kathy Griffin and Mama Mia!

Sports play a huge part in the lives of many Northwood residents, so our proximity to The Toledo Mud Hens Stadium is a big plus. Just a short trip across the river, the Mud Hens, a farm team for the Detroit Tigers, play out their season from mid-April through the first weekend in September.

Northwood, Ohio residents also have an extensive parks system at their disposal.  Brentwood and Central Parks offer Baseball and softball diamonds, basketball and tennis courts, play areas and soccer fields. Other parks in the City of Northwood include scenic walking trails and wet prairie lands. These beautiful wildlife habitats reflect the heritage of the great Black Swamp that covered much of Northwest Ohio until the mid 1800s. Exercise stations, sponsored by St, Charles Hospital and the City of Northwood, are available along the trail at Nature Trails Park. And if you’re lucky, you might spot a few bluebirds which are being reintroduced to the park with added bluebird boxes.

Northwood, Ohio is also close to Lake Erie, which provides not only an invaluable source of fresh water, but also fishing, boating and other recreational activities unique to the Great Lakes.
