The Northwood Civil Service Commission administers a written examination to establish an eligibility list for the positions of Utility Worker for the Streets Department and Part-Time Custodian for the Buildings and Grounds Department.  The City advertises in local newspapers when an exam is needed.  Note:  An application must be filed prior to taking the exam.

 

Applications

Applications for this examination are accepted Monday through Friday between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. at the City Municipal Building, 6000 Wales Road, Northwood, Ohio.  The dates applications will be accepted will be indicated in the advertisement.  Each candidate must pay a non-refundable application filing fee at the time they submit their application.

Qualifications

Applicants must have a high school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent (to be submitted with application), with completion of secondary education or equivalent, and training and/or experience which evidences advanced knowledge of one or more of the common trades that make up the position.  Must have a demonstrable ability to perform heavy physical labor for extended periods of time.  At the time of application and depending upon position applying for, the applicant must be in possession of an Ohio Driver's License or Ohio Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with air brake and tanker endorsement.  Position description and specific information relevant to the exam will be provided upon submitting an application.

 

Residency

Must reside within Wood County in the State of Ohio or an adjacent county by the end of the required probationary period.

 

Veterans

All Veterans must submit a copy of their DD214 with the application.

 

Tie Scores

In the event that applicants receive the same score in the examination, priority in the time of filing the applications with the Civil Service Commission shall determine the order in which their names shall be placed on the eligibilty list provided that applicants eligible for Veteran's preference shall receive priority in rank on the eligibilty list.  Ties among Veterans shall be decided by priority of the filing of the application.
