PAPER CONSERVATION:

By way of reminder, beginning with this meeting, copies of documents such as ordinances and resolutions will be provided only at their first reading.

I continue to research the concept of “paperless” council meetings using laptops or I-pads and software such as boarddocs.com.

I will address this issue with the appropriate sub-committee as soon as I gather enough information.

WALES ROAD UPDATE:

The top/finish layer for Wales Road (along with other access roads) will be completed in the spring of 2014 at which time the road will be turned back over to the city.

The existing rail grades/crossings will be completely closed at this time.

Residences and businesses north of the Conrail tracks can only access their properties from the new portion of Wales Road.

Street lighting is in the works for the intersections of Wales and Access Road C and Wales and Drouillard Road with the latter being a priority.

CLOTHING COLLECTION BOXES:

The city continues to work with property owners in removing these non-permissible accessory structures from various properties in Northwood.

A number of boxes have been removed by their owner after receipt of notification that they were not allowed in the city unless granted a waiver by the BZA. Other box owners have not responded and these boxes will be picked up and stored by the city when weather permits.

CITY GARBAGE COLLECTION:

On Monday, January 6, 2014, Waste Management issued the following press release to local radio, TV and news outlets. I also received a phone call at work on the 6th from the area manager explaining their decision not to collect until the weather improved.

“January 5, 2014 – Because safety in the communities is a priority, Waste Management collection service has been cancelled for Monday, January 6 for Waste Management customers in these Toledo communities: Northwood, Walbridge, Haskins, Temperance, Michigan, and Genoa. These residential customers will be serviced the following Monday (January 13, 2014). Also, Waste Management Evergreen Landfill will be closed on Monday, January 6. If customers have any questions, they can call Waste Management Customer Service at 1-800-343-6047.”
